Parts of the terminal building of Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Owerri, was on Monday, gutted by fire at about 1400hours.
The fire was however curtailed swiftly by officers of the Aerodrome Rescue and Fire Fighting Services Department of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
There was no casualty and normal operations has since resumed at the airport.
The Authority, in a statement signed by Mrs. Henrietta Yakubu, FAAN spokesperson, said it has commenced preliminary investigations into the cause of the incident, adding that it is committed to its core core values of Safety, Security and Comfort.
“We will continue to do our best at ensuring that our airports are safe, secure and comfortable for our esteemed customers”, she said.
Meanwhile, the Authority has apologised to passengers and airlines for any inconvenience suffered as a result of the unfortunate incident.
