Aviation Safety Round Table Initiative (ASRTI), has expressed concerns over the negative impact of the suspension of flights of two major airlines, Aero contractors and Dana Air.
Aero Contractors had announced suspension of its scheduled services last week over lack of aircraft and other industry issues while the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), suspended Dana Air for operational audit.
The suspension of flights by these two airlines in quick succession had since created scenes at airports where passengers had resorted to destroying facilities due to shortage of capacity, resulting in flight rebooking, rescheduling and refunding of money.
The association, which promised to investigate the circumstances that led to the whole scenario, said it will make recommendations to government and stakeholders, on its findings.
“It is with great pain that ART observes the self termination of scheduled flight operations by Aero Contractors Airline Ltd. and the regulator’s suspension of Dana Airline’s operations.
“We are aware of the serious negative impact these developments will have on the travelling public. ART will, as its usual practice, inquire into the root causes of this very discouraging incidents that result in loss of capacity for the traveling public. ART will make findings and recommendations to the stakeholders (government and the the public)
“We call on the air traveling public to be patient while steps are being taken to restore normal and safe services. Be reassured that we, an independent body of veterans in the industry and in co-operation with the government, regulators and operators, will ensure the best outcome for the industry and consumers for safe and reliable air operations in Nigeria.”, a statement signed by Olumide Ohunayo, assistant secretary general, ART said.
