Nureni Jimoh, Solicitors to Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON), has written President Muhammadu Buhari to call Aviation Minister, Senator Hadi Sirika to order over his plan to continue with Nigeria Air project, despite court order retraining taking of any step in relation to the project.
The Solicitors are reacting to the announcement made by Sirika on Wednesday that the aircraft for the operations of the airline would arrive Nigeria on Friday.
In the letter dated May 24, 2023 and titled ‘Nigeria Air Project….’, and referring to Suit NO. FHC/L/CS/2159/2022, the counsels asked Bihari to stop what they called ‘rubbishing of achievements of Buhari’s administration and a violation if court order’.
“We are solicitors to Airline Operators of Nigeria. Our client filed the above suit to question the shady deal, deliberate infraction of the Nigerian laws and self-enrichment, mainly against the Federal Ministry of Aviation over the Nigerian Air Project.
“In the suit, the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos presided by Hon. Justice A.L Allagoa, in the above suit, granted Orders of interim and interlocutory injunctions, in the terms contained in the Order, restraining taking of any step in relation to the Nigeria Air project. Copy each of the Orders are enclosed as Annexures 1, 2 & 3.
“As you are well aware, the administration will hand over on May 29, 2023. The Honourable Minister of Aviation, Sen. Hadi Sirika, granted an interview to Channels Television and same has gone viral on social media wherein the Minister choose the last working day, that is Friday 26th May, 2023 to hurriedly bring two aircraft and pretend that Nigeria Air has commenced operation. Aside moral justification for commercial operation after the Minister’s last day in office, it is a clever way to violate the above orders regardless of the stain on the record of this administration and to cover for corrupt actions raised in the case. This posture tends to destroy the very good image earned by the Buhari-led administration for years.
“We trust you will stop this negative action of the Minister of Aviation to ensure compliance with terms of the Order.”, the Solicitors said.
