Members of the Ikeja Aviation Lions Club have distributed items aimed at preventing the COVID-19 pandemic to passengers and workers at the General Aviation Terminal (MMA 1) of the Murtala Mohammed airport, Ikeja with a plea to them to continue to keep social distancing.
The members, led by the president Engr AbdulRahman Musa, while distributing hand sanitizers, and nose masks to passengers and workers at the airport terminal said, it was their own little way of contributing to to help create more awareness in preventing the spread of COVID-19.
Musa, who pleaded with travellers to always maintain social distancing at the airports and other places, said the distribution of the hand sinitizers and face masks was part of the Lions Club monthly activity in the series of events lined up for the one calender year adding that they were out to improve the lives of people especially the elderly and the less privileged around their zone through humanitarian activities.
The theme of the event is, ‘Creating environmental awareness on prevention of COVID-19 pandemic in Aviation’ .
According to him, every individual need to touch lives in one way or the other through philanthropy, adding, ‘whatever you are doing if you don’t touch lives, you have done nothing in this world. It is all about helping the needy. It was fantastic going out to touch lives today and I promised that the needy will be assisted continually’.
The terminal manager MM1 Mr Aderigbibe Adekunle, who received the items before members of the Ikeja Aviation Lions Club commenced the distributions, commended the lions club for its humanitarian service.
Adekunle, who described it as a great gesture, urged other bodies to emulate the lions club.
Also speaking, the chartered president of the Ikeja Lions club, Mr Adamu Bello said the club started few years ago with cooperation from members in organizing trainings.
Bello explained that distribution of the item was part of humanitarian gesture in a way of giving palliatives to the public describing it as bold step as a result of the effect of the COVID-19.
Members of the airport car hire association, represented by the vice chairman, Babayemi Nathaniel whose association also benefited from the gesture commended the Lions Club.
