…as Schools hold 2022 Inter-House Sports competition

The management of Murtala Muhammed Airport Schools, Ikeja, Lagos, has called on well meaning stakeholders to rise to the funding of sporting activities in the schools in order to aid grassroots sports and to catch the children young.

Speaking at the 2022 Inter-House Sports competition of the Schools, comprising the Primary and Secondary schools, the principal of the College, Mrs. Stella Otoide, spoke about the need to construct a Basketball court as well as the covering of the field with natural or synthetic grasses.

‘’In Murtala Muhammed Schools, we believe in the development of the total child. We have our students/pupils excelling in both academics and in co-curricular activities. In recent years, we have had very interesting Inter-House sports competition due to the support we enjoy from our distinguished dignitaries and corporate partners.

‘’We hereby use this medium to urge the chairman and all dignitaries in today’s occasion to donate generously to the development of sports in this great school. The construction of a Basket ball will require some more contributions as well as the covering of our field with natural or synthetic grasses. We appreciate the Parent- Teacher Association, the School’s board a d the entire staff who have worked relentlessly to make the school a great one’’, she said.

Also speaking, General Manager, Safety Services, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mr. Nathaniel Inajoh, who is also the Chairman, PTA of the schools, said many of the events did not feature on Wednesday due to lack of facilities.

‘’Yes, there are quite a number of sporting events that would have feature today if we have the necessary facilities. I believe that id the area she is talking about. The PTA has always supported in this area, providing the mattresses for the high jump, trophies for the footballers, there is so much we can do for the footballers.”.

While urging the students to see sports as one f life’s engagements that helps mould personality, he said: ‘Today’s event means that we are giving the students complete, rounded education, not only in academics, they are also engaged in extra curricular which is supposed to help build other attributes like endurance, sportsmanship because these are going to be the things they will experience in life as time goes on. In sports, conflict is inevitable, events like this are where they learn to also resolve conflicts. To the students, life itself is a game, for the winners and losers, that you loose today does not mean you cannot win tomorrow.”, he added.
