The managing   director of Azman Air, Alhaji Faisal Abdulmunaf, on Monday gave reasons six pilots and some other workers were sacked from the company at the weekend.

The Azman Air boss attributed the sack to the huge impact of COVID-19 on airline operations, not just locally but globally.

Recall that six pilots and some other workers were sacked at the weekend by the company as some people allegedly attributed it to complaints about delay in salary payment.

But according to the MD, airlines are left with the options of downsizing and rightsizing in order to mitigate the effect of the pandemic.

He however expressed optimism that the more planes would be deployed into operations if the impact does not longer than expected.

In a text message sent to The Travelport, the Azman Air boss said: “Unfortunately the news is true, Aviation sector is terribly affected globally by Covid-19, There is need to downsize and right size for airlines to survive, as we battle with the second wave of the Pandemic. The decision was not easy but necessary to navigate through the current global economic challenges. We do hope and pray that the impact does not last longer than anticipated, so that we can have all our Planes and Pilots flying again”
