The Ikeja Aviation Lions Club has charged the females not to entertain any fear in taking up courses in the engineering profession.

President of the Club, Engr. Abdulrahman, Musa, said the engineering profession is not for the males alone but for everybody including the females.

He spoke during  a zoom conference with the theme ‘Her Ability To Handle Tools’, where speakers included Commissioner for Education Anambra state, Prof Kate Omenugha , Engr Olorunfemi Isaac, a past president of Nigerian Society of Engineers, Engr Nkechi Isigwe, a former President of Association of Professional Women Engineers in Nigeria (APWEN) and so many other Engineers.

Engr. Musa who was a guest speaker, said women should believe in their ability to handle any task or profession, adding that, their male counterparts do not think they can excel in the engineering field.

“The men presents the picture of engineering as s very difficult profession that will be tedious for the females to handle”

He urged the females to see the profession as an easy one like any other professions.

“Gender is immaterial in engineering, it is only being attributed to men because boys believe that the profession is for them and too difficult for the female”, he said.

The Girl Child Engineer Initiative programme is designed not just to raise awareness on the need to get the girl child into the engineering profession but to develop and implement programs and projects that will guide, empower and support our girls in Secondary schools to enroll into Engineering departments
